Our Patron Saints
St Peter & St Paul
On June 29 the Catholic Church celebrates the feast day of Saints
Peter & Paul. These two saints were contemporaries. Peter was a
disciple of Jesus and chosen by Christ to lead the Church. Paul had
been a zealous Jew who persecuted Christians, before experiencing a
dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus and becoming the
Church’s first great missionary. Through their preaching, ministry and
martyrdom, saints Peter and Paul helped to establish Christ’s Church.
The feast of saints Peter and Paul is a solemnity, the highest rank for
a liturgical feast and a holy day of obligation. As we are fortunate
enough to be named after these two extraordinary men, we explore
the life and mission of St Peter and St Paul and inspire children to
follow their example by reaching out to others around the world as
brothers and sisters in God’s Universal Family.

The keys represent Peter's authority as the leader of the twelve apostles and the head of the early Church. After
Peter made his profession of faith in Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of the living God (Mt 16:16), Jesus said, “I will
give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.
The book carried by Saint Paul represents his epistles in the New Testament of the Bible.
The sword is a reminder of the means of his martyrdom – he was beheaded in Rome in 67 AD.
